For the latest, check out our 2018 Annual Review.

September 17, 2017 marks the first anniversary of Mezcal Reviews opening its doors to the public. It’s been an incredible first year and we can’t thank you enough for helping to fill this online jicara with some of the best stuff on Earth. With your help, we’ve gone from a niche mezcal website to a……larger niche mezcal website! And we’ve had a blast in the process.

Now that we’re officially one year old, here are a few quick stats about what’s happened over the last 12 months:

  • There are now over 300 bottles listed.
  • Users created more than 500 mezcal reviews.
  • We’ve had more than 20,000 unique visitors from 100 different countries.
  • We now get more than 1,000 new visitors per week.

The momentum continues to grow. Though not everyone writes a review on the site, our visitors read the reviews that many of you have written. Through your reviews, you’ve helped readers make important decisions at the liquor store, and you’ve given them the ability to impress their friends when they ask the bartender “Which Mezcal Vago is that on the shelf?”

The first blog we ever posted was titled Welcome to Mezcal Reviews: A New Joven. “A New Joven” is of course a play on Star Wars “A New Hope.” We thought about naming our first anniversary post something Star Wars-related, like The Espadin Strikes Back or Maestro Luke Skywalker y Don Solo, but nothing really stuck. With or without references to the “the force” (which mezcal definitely gives you), year one has been a wild ride.

What's Next?

We accomplished most of our initial goals and some are still in progress. For example, we’re still very keen on adding a cocktail recipe section to the website. We’ve already starting building the pages, but we need your help. Are you a bartender? Or an at-home mixologist? Send us an idea through the Contact Us form. We’d love to make you one of our featured bartenders.

In addition to mezcal recipes, the next year will allow us to continue to develop the functionality of our user profile pages (Login here), add even more mezcals to the site, and publish more blog posts about palenques and sustainability programs in Oaxaca and beyond. Want to see us add something new? Write it in the comments below.

They say you don’t find Mezcal, Mezcal finds you. It found us, and we hope that it found you too. Write some reviews and connect with us on Instagram and Facebook.

Salud y Dixeebe!
