About this mezcal

Bozal Cenizo is made with Maguey Cenizo (agave Durangensis) that are cooked in earthen pit ovens, then crushed and mashed by a stone horse-drawn tahona. The agaves are fermented in open-air tanks using only naturally occurring yeasts, and then double distilled.

Bozal Mezcal

Mezcal Bozal is a craft, artisan, handmade Mezcal. They celebrate the wild side of the Mezcal world and the wild agave used to produce such rich spirits. They use agave from the steep precarious hillsides of Oaxaca and Guerrero that are indigenous to the region. These varietals produce flavors that are exotically intense, with rich earth tones and savory smokiness. From the heart of the maguey these flavors are traditionally extracted to produce mezcal that is wildly refined.

Light creamy smoke and caramel on the nose with brown butter and toasted almond.
Delicious on the palate. Creamy, veggie smoke with floral notes. Notes of melon or cantelope, sweet potato and pumpkin.

Expressive nose. Pine citrus. One of my favorite mezcals. Love the ceramic bottle reminds me of the coveted and sought after Heath ceramics from San Francisco. Basically a piece of art inside and out.

47% ABV, Lot # 012019
Earthiness and vinyl on the nose. Great minerality, lemon, rosemary, and bit of apple on the palate. A bit of overripe banana as well, walnut, and a smoked salmon flavor on the backend. A nice lingering heat and spiciness to this one as well. Really enjoyed this expression.

Lot 012019

On the nose a bit shy but lemon peels, vanilla, and wet stone come through. Taste follows the nose. Full, unctuous mouth feel. Finish starts with a bite, medium sweet finish.

Lot No. 012019
Nose: Funky, like a side of moldy, 60-day aged prime beef. Vanilla. Root vegetable.

Palate: Slighty burnt sharp cheese. Meaty – like chunky, marbled salt pork. Creamy vanilla sweetness. Great stuff. This is about a 3.75 rating but I’m really partial to cenizo mezcal… so I’ll round up.

Lot no 012019, 47% alc,

One of the sweeter bozal productions , as is very common wherever maguey cenizo is involved. Lovely vanilla, clove and butterscotch notes on the nose. Mouthful is definitely true to the nose with a lingering smoke. However, compareded to Lagrimas De Delores, Bozal Cenizo definitely feels like a small bar fight in the back of the throat (in the best way) to remind you of the semi wild component to harvesting. A truly excellent product for anyone who is timid about Mezcal or lovers of sweeter reposados.
