About this mezcal
Bozal Cuixe is made with wild maguey Cuixe in San Luis Amatlan, Oaxaca. Due to the unusual structure of this agave, and it containing a firmer piña, the Cuixe can be difficult to harvest and to work with in general. This mezcal has intense citrus aromas and strong minerality. It’s rather dry on the palate with notes of rich tropical fruit.

Mezcal Bozal is a craft, artisan, handmade Mezcal. They celebrate the wild side of the Mezcal world and the wild agave used to produce such rich spirits. They use agave from the steep precarious hillsides of Oaxaca and Guerrero that are indigenous to the region. These varietals produce flavors that are exotically intense, with rich earth tones and savory smokiness. From the heart of the maguey these flavors are traditionally extracted to produce mezcal that is wildly refined.

I have a new bottle Lot No 00123 from Zochitlan Rio Seco. This one is called “Cuishe”, not “Cuixe”.
This is a totally different mezcal! Incredibly juicy and flavorful.
The nose is full of tobacco, buttercream, floral scents and fruit, apricots, subtle smoke, green karwinskii trunk smells, pepper.
The palate is an explosion of juicy flavor – juicy fruit gum, green pepper, karwinskii, woody pulp, green vegetation, jalapeno cream, and leather. It’s up there with some of the best cuishe that I’ve had, closer to what I had imagined a madrecuixe to be. This one gets 4 stars from me.

Palate: Sugar-roasted green bell pepper – if there even is such an awesome thing? Vegetal and a quality smoke profile. A cool minerality to it. Finish is a hint hot.

Palate is smoky and vegetal but ruined by a hard to place artificial/chemical note that reminds me of burning rubber. The long, mineral-forward and vegetal finish is the best part of this mezcal but again tainted by that artificial note.

Ok, in all honesty, this bottle has been in my cabinet longer than any other but I gave it a go again last night, and quite frankly had quite a few. it did NOT disappoint as I had recalled the first few tries so I bumped this up a little.

Not really for me. The acrid plastic is undeniable and just not my cup of tea, given how dominant it is here.

On the nose I get bubblegum, overripe fruit, and heavy floral scents.
Mouthfeel is nice, not as heavy as I expected from the nose. More vegetal on the palate with some grass and jalapeno.
Finish brings back the bubblegum and some gentle smoke.
There are things to like, but the bubblegum note is just a bit too much for me here.

Overall a really nice sipping mezcal – definitely a sweet and fruity expression, but with a lingering quality that makes it rather intriguing.

To me it smells like going to the pool, it has a nice perfume of cleaning products that is more of a perfume and not chemical at all. It has a strong alcohol feel 5/5 for that nice burn 4/5 for that floral and vegetal taste. Of 3 Bozal’s that was my pick although the price was 130$ whereas the Ensamble was 98$. The Ensamble had a longer finish than this one but the memories this unlocks for me made me buy it.

I get chlorine and other cleaning solutions. Also a bit of toothpaste. I prefer the Bozal Ensamble, which is actually cheaper, than the Cuixe. If you can find the Bozal Castilla or the Borrego, I’d also recommend those over this one.

There is a perfume spice flavor here and it goes down like velvet with some grape sweetness. The finish is slightly artificial and sour but overall smooth. The price is quite low for a mezcal from agave cuixe.

Bozal Cuixe is a great sipper. This Mezcal has a very light hint of smoke which let’s the Cuixe’s unique flavors stand out. A light, earthy and floral nose with an Herbaceous and Sweet flavor profile. Finish is clean, this Bozal Cuixe drinks really easy
