Bozal Tobasiche is made with wild maguey Tobasiche, which is a member of agave Karwinskii family, and generally takes 12-13 years to fully mature. This agave is typically characterized for its herbaceous and cedar-like notes. This mezcal has high minerality and sweet notes of anise and botanicals.

Mezcal Bozal is a craft, artisan, handmade Mezcal. They celebrate the wild side of the Mezcal world and the wild agave used to produce such rich spirits. They use agave from the steep precarious hillsides of Oaxaca and Guerrero that are indigenous to the region. These varietals produce flavors that are exotically intense, with rich earth tones and savory smokiness. From the heart of the maguey these flavors are traditionally extracted to produce mezcal that is wildly refined.

Nose is very light, just a hint of smoke. Nothing exceptionally good or bad going on here.
First impressions are herbal with a tangerine/some other type of orange citrus undertone. The spirit doesn’t linger much either, only a slight afterburn with a far too quick fadeaway for me. Again, the flavors are neither offensive nor exceptional.
Not to be overly repetitive this is an unexceptional and mostly bland spirit that I would drink this again if you bought it but I personally will not be buying it again myself; it is simply too uneventful for me to give it any real estate in my cabinet.

Nose is peanut butter, rose and green-ness. Very pleasant and appetizing.
Veggie, similar to a cuishe, but not as long on the finish. Peanut flavors mix with a nice taste of vegetation and minerality. Nice smoky finish.

Additional Info: A very reasonably priced (for tobasiche) bottle from Bozal in a cool ceramic bottle. Information beyond that is hard to come by, Bozal aren’t the most transparent company in the world, but several of their bottlings (including this tobasiche and their cuishe) crop up frequently in online recommendations.
Nose: Cooked agave, cream cheese, anise, cedar, and assorted herbs.
Taste: Sweet and herbal, almost a sweetened absinthe. Becomes more mineral (wet clay) and then spicy, like black pepper and anise together. Changes a lot as you hold it on your tongue, very dynamic spirit.
Finish: More anise, eventually fading into cooked agave (think high quality blanco tequila). Mouth numbing like an absinthe.
Notes: Super interesting stuff, if you served this to me blind and said it was absinthe, I would probably believe you (though it would be a weird ass absinthe). This is not an expensive bottle, I paid around $60, and it certainly won’t be to everyone’s taste, but it hits a sweet spot for me.

This stuff is tasty and refreshing, the slight fruit hints play well with the main mineral earthiness and pepper notes in there to pull of a very tasty flavor profile that I could come back to easily.

pretty short finish owing to the sweetness, but lots more candied herbs, eucalyptus, and mint. this is fantastic. would love to compare it to the tobasiche adrian bautista produced for koch.

But the Bozal bottling of this is significantly less expensive than the Koch. It’s overly thin and lingering on the palate.
