About this mezcal

Bruxo No. 1 is distilled from 100% Espadin agave.  This Mezcal uses it’s smokiness to frame and enhance the delicious fruit and floral aromas. The texture and richness of this Mezcal really stands out. The mysterious origin and name of this product also adds to its mystique. The Bruxo, meaning “wizard” in Portuguese,  might cast a spell on you.

Bruxo Mezcal

Bruxo was created by a group of friends who love and honor the country of Mexico. They discovered the magic of mezcal, but above all, its people. Brujo is synonymous with shaman, wise, illuminated; and the “X ” in Bruxo then refers to the pronunciation of their origin lands, Oaxaca and México. Each bottle of Bruxo may vary slightly from lot to lot, so make sure to check your bottle for details.

4.25/5 A delicious, easy accessible and inexpensive Mezcal. A desserty but not sweet.
Flavors of fresh Oatmeal Raisin Cookies, tangy New York Cheesecake, Oaxacan chocolate and spicy, sweet pipe tobacco.
I have to infuse some of this w/ coffee for Espresso Martinis. That’s a good morning right there, folks.

The taste of smoke takes the tongue by assault from the very start. It stings in a very nice way. However the flavor is not strong, it is easy on the palate.

Nose – Lime citrus. Pumpkin seeds.

Palate – Extremely light flavors (black pepper, vanilla) at first then it comes together in the middle. Dry the rest of the way. Peaty finish with vanilla, light cream and a dry, house white wine. This one starts mediocre but finishes pretty well.

Decent espadin at 46% ABV. Citrusy with a sharp finish. There is a bit of firewood and sour peat. Not the most exciting espadin. Don’t miss the other mezcals from Bruxo. Batch AB69.

July 2021 update – Purchased a bottle while I was in Quintana Roo on vacation after hearing of Don Lucio’s passing. It is a very enjoyable Espadin, especially compared to most of the trash mezcal sold in the tourist areas of the Yucatán Peninsula. As the market has changed since my original review, I have come to appreciate solid Espadin mezcals and this is certainly one of them. Batch B1912.
