Cruz de Fuego Ensamble

Cruz de Fuego Ensamble is produced by Carlos Mendez Blas, son of mezcalera Margarita Blas. They share a palenque in Santiago Matatlan.

About this mezcal

Cruz de Fuego Ensamble is produced by Carlos Mendez Blas in Santiago Matatlan using 70% maguey Espadin and 30% maguey Tobala. His mezcal is traditionally produced using an underground stone horno, tahona, and copper stills. This was the first Cruz de Fuego release to be exported.

Cruz de Fuego Mezcal

Cruz de Fuego Mezcal is operated by the mother-son duo Margarita Blas and Carlos Mendez Blas. They both live and work in Santiago Matatlan, Oaxaca and use a distillery that has copper stills. They both work out of the same palenque and follow similar traditional techniques in their mezcal production.

Low key and approachable, not a lot of bite. Advantage to the Mezcal Union Viejo, but this is solid.

This is a nice ensamble and quite affordable. It contains 30% agave Tobala. There are a few brands doing Espadin-Tobala ensambles and it would be fun to try them side-by-side. With this ensamble, I get a flavor of dry root beer along with some nice umami flavors. A good mezcal for newbies too.
