Grulani Mezcal

Grulani Mezcal was founded by maestro mezcalero Leo Hernandez and his business partner Victor Moreno. The brand is based in San Baltazar Guelavila. The bottle is a re-interpretation of a Zapoteca design, made with recycled hand-blown glass. The base and cap are made with oak and cedar, which is the same wood they use to cook the agave in their ovens.

Very sweet and easy sipping. Lots of sugar and cooked agave. A bit of salt and a dash of lemon. I think mezcal newbies would love this! A bit viscous. Hard for me to pinpoint which agave category I’d compare this to – given the sweetness I’d lean towards Espadin or Tobala. March 2020 harvest. Bottle 14/350.

March 2020 harvest. Bottle 14/350. Pleasant aromas of sweet flowers in spring, cotton candy, sweet tarts, and airheads. Tasting notes of vanilla bean, flan, milk chocolate, spearmint gum, and molasses. Enjoyable.

Lot GRU18LUM01, distilled November 2018. Vegetal (herbs) with a distinct taste of roasted agave and a bit of lemon zest. Pleasant and well-balanced, quite sweet.
