God damn I love this bottle. The smell hits you from a mile away– it’s the kind of bottle I have everyone smell lol even if they don’t like mezcal it objectively just smells amazing. As others have mentioned, the balance on this one is incredible. I feel like each small sip has so many layers to it– bell pepper, vegetal, green, and a really bright overall finish. The taste will linger in your mouth for a LONG time after a slight sip of this one. Just fantastic stuff!

Fourth and final pour.

In hindsight was very glad I was poured this last. Different maestro & palenque from before and twice distilled in copper. They told me that it was due to elevation and temperature, which drew me to the pour in great interest. The amount of Tepextate slathered across the canvas was impressive, and I was so impressed how deep and heavy the spirit was otherwise (since it’s sat in glass since 2016) doesn’t seem like it’s lost a thing. Worldly spirit this, BRAVO!

Enjoyable. Taste is in line with exactly what I was expecting. Nothing out of the norm. Some sweetness, slight campari type biterness…. the mezcal version of a negroni.

Green pepper, basil, mint, and rose water aromas are infectious. I can’t stop sniffing this as it smells incredible. The palate is coating and buttery with notes of cucumber mint water, walnuts, pine, and a touch of dark chocolate. Warm and savory finish.

Nose: Proper cream soda. Sweet pepper. A hint of ginger.

Palate: Creamier sweetness vs the other Gusto ensambles. A great viscosity to it. Can really taste that tobala on the finish. Super long and very warm. Lingering birthday cake flavor.

My favorite of all 4x Historico Gustos samples I’ve tried. Smell is green, sweet, and inviting. Tepeztate forward, which I’m definitely biased to. Love the green and earthiness, along with some cream notes from the cuishe. Candy sweetness is in there too. Tastes a bit stronger than the 47% ABV, but in a great way. I’m buying a full bottle of this one!

Easily my favorite of the four that I tried. This is really good. Floral and clean and light. Almost weightless on the tongue. Fresh white roses, fresh basil leaf, cinnamon, cold green grapes, fresh jalapeño, honeydew melon, and kiwi with a very long warm cinnamon finish. I love this one!!

Love this stuff and want to try more from this mezcalero, Juan Vázquez. It has a great balance at around 47% ABV. I’m partial to Tepeztate which is a big note here. Not sure I’ve really seen many Tepeztate-Karwinskii ensambles, but this is amazing. The green pepper and woody notes make it taste really organic. Almost like biting into fresh veggies. There are some light mineral water notes mid-palate. Soft finish with cotton candy notes. Extra half star for the price point of around $107/bottle (at least where I found it).
