Lot 01/19 from Alberto Vasquez. Smells floral with lots of slate. Aromas of fresh flowers, confectionary sugar, and apple cider vinegar. The palate has notes of root beer, sarsparilla, molasses, raisins, coffee grounds, and chocolate. This is dark and brooding. This is really solid.

Tasted the Ancestral Coyote, truly a gem with caramel, spice, mineral and red fruit flavors. Subtle smoke which is typical for Carlos Moreno’s Koch collection. 47 proof.

Totally smoky smell, but not very strong. Impregnated with smoky flavor at first contact, immediately you feel as if fire has filled your mouth and then it goes down your throat. Powerful and delicious.

Koch Coyote I came across in the US is clay pot from Sola De Vega and was replete with all the clay pot funk you would want to see in such an expression. I prefer ensambles in this regard as its more layered, complex, and comes together after multiple sips. This single agave variation came across with quite a bit of funk but still had the requisite earth, clay, almond, marzipan, etc. you encounter with clay pot. A reach for my palate but if you like that lactic funk – look no further.
