Lagrimas de Dolores Lamparillo

Lagrimas de Dolores Lamparillo is a limited release from Durango, where there is a wide variety of agave that are not found in Oaxaca.

About this mezcal

Lagrimas de Dolores Lamparillo is made with maguey Lamparillo (agave Asperrima). The agave are roasted in an underground oven and mechanically milled. They are then fermented in open-air pine tanks and distilled in copper pot stills.

Lagrimas de Dolores Mezcal

Lagrimas de Dolores is made at Hacienda Dolores, which is run by the Gutierrez family and situated about 10 minutes from Durango City. They have a goal of replanting for each of the agave that they use in their mezcal. They report that they have an annual goal of planting around 50,000 agaves. Their bottle was designed in Feuquières, France. The leather on the cap is meant to be a signature feature from Mexican fine-horse culture. Their logo is a representation of Our Lady of Sorrows (latin: Mater Dolorosa) the patron saint of Hacienda Dolores. Their Joven and Anejo mezcal are produced entirely with Agave durangensis, which is endemic to the State of Durango in Northern Mexico. They also have special limited releases that feature rare agave like I’gok, Cimmarion, and Tepemete.

Batch from Gilberto Roldan. Slightly sour fruit on the nose, but not much of that, very subtle. The palate is almost malty with more notes of dark fruit, and a grape soda or grape Jolly Rancher type note. There’s a bit of heat on this but it’s really pleasant and present on the palate. No batch number on sample.

Nose : I definitely get melon vibes with some kind of lactic chewy candy.
Taste : beautiful! Hard to describe, like the first time I tasted tepextate. Vegetal, umami and lactic.
Finish : sweet and oily
Stunning…

Wow. Candy melons on the nose. Honey and melons on the palate. Light peppery finish. Absolutely delicious!

200ml
Bottle 170/360 Lote L-6
Purchased in 7/2021
47% ABV
Slight warming on the initial nose impact. Aroma: Melon, tropical fruit, tamarind, ash from a fire pit.
Buttery to oily on the initial hit on the tongue.
Flavor leads strongly with melon, guava, honey and licorice (especially after it opens up a bit). Really nice black pepper on the tongue. Some bbq sauce lingering on the long finish. Overall well balanced. Extremely satisfying mezcal. Don’t see many Lamparillo mezcals, this is outstanding. If I had it in a 750ml I’d be in trouble. So good, this 200ml is toast tonight
