About this mezcal

Los Amantes Anejo is aged for eighteen months in French oak and American oak barrels, which are slightly toasted. This mezcal has a great body and smooth woody aromas. Tasting notes include vanilla, coffee, honey, and prunes.

Los Amantes Mezcal

The name “Los Amantes” is inspired by the Aztec legend of the goddess Mayahuel who disobeyed her grandmother and gave herself to Quetzalcoatl for love. She paid with her life. After her remains where buried and watered with the tears of Quetzalcoatl, the maguey plant grew, which of course was then used to make mezcal. Los Amantes mezcal is distilled by hand and made 100% of agave Espadin in Tlacolula, Oaxaca. The agave is baked in traditional hornos, milled by tahona, and distilled in copper stills. Los Amantes distillery holds NOM-O01X, meaning that it was the first internationally certified mezcal distillery.

While my experience with Mezcal so far has been limited to bottles in the $30-$45 range (Union Uno, Fidencio, El Silencio Reposado), this is certainly the most enjoyable sipping mezcal I’ve had so far. Has an extremely smooth finish but still retains a mild and pleasant kick on first taste. Would absolutely recommend.

Decent añejo mezcal. It has more of a kick than the reposado which is interesting. There is a lot of wood with some notes of gingerbread. I’d recommend this to añejo tequila fans looking to get into mezcal.

Bold aromas of toasted coconut. This one is a bit funkier than the Reposado. Chocolate and violet on the nose. Tasting notes of Sprite, 7Up, flan, and strawberry cream with a touch of tres leches. This has a lot more character than the reposado. I don’t drink much aged mezcal or tequila, but I’m really enjoying this.
