It smelled of the burnt rubber slightly but did not taste like it. It was fairly smooth and drinkable. At the Zarape Restaurant, Wyndham Hotel, Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo. 380 pesos a shot.

A very definite specimen of a “real” mezcal. This is of my favorite treats, and I try to pick up a bottle at least once every year.

Funny, this was actually my very first mezcal, and I didn’t particularly like it. It was expensive (for me, anyway), so I was determined to finish it. By the time it was half empty, I had come to understand more about the distillation process, and what made this one special. Now it is at the very top of my appreciation list!

Quite enjoyable but I would like more concentrated scent and slightly better balanced mouthfeel. Notes of flowers, caramel, cooked agave and deep fried banana. Golden brown liquid.

Scent: 4/5
