Los Nahuales Special Edition No. 3

Los Nahuales Special Edition No. 3 is made with four agaves that create a unique experience together. Like other Special Editions, this may be hard to find.

About this mezcal

Los Nahuales Special Edition No. 3  is made with four different magueyes: wild Tobalá (48%), with wild Tepeztate (13%), cultivated upland Espadin (26%), and a bit of the enormous and scarce maguey Sierrudo (13%). This mezcal is extraordinarily balanced, complex, and rich. It was distilled by Karina Abad, who manages the Alipus and Mezcalero programs as well as running the distillery in Santiago Matatlan. She has worked closely with dozens of distillers all over the Oaxaca Valley, becoming familiar with differing distillation methods, differing yeasts, and all kinds of agaves from many different microclimates. Her knowledge of mezcal really shows here.

Los Nahuales Mezcal

Los Nahuales mezcal is distilled at the Déstileria Los Danzantes in Santiago Matatlan, the world capital of mezcal, south of Oaxaca city. The mezcals are branded as Los Nahuales in the USA due to trademark issues. Though the mezcaleros behind this mezcal have been making it for generations, the Los Danzantes brand has been around since 1997.

Great blend, love how these agaves are brought together in this blend. A bit of bark and chalk on the back end, Notes of lemongrass, mint, and earth. A touch as well of the bubblegum that seems to be prominent in several of the Los Nahuales and Mezcalero releases.

Smells like skittles and starburst. Definitely tobala-forward on the palate. Lots of citrus upfront, lime & sweet grapefruit, plenty of grassiness & minerality. If you could turn a sotol paloma into a mezcal this would be it. Takes me back to my childhood lakehouse we used to rent….fresh dew on the grass and smooth waters ready to be sliced by a water-ski.

Very different and interesting. This has a lot going on for the palate. It’s got a bit of bite but lots of full flavors of fresh citrus and bright sunshine. Notes of limes, tangerine, grapefruit, and whipped cream. It’s like if Florida had a state pie made only out of fruit grown in Florida. Really enjoying this. 4 Stars.

Delicious ensemble from Karina. Bright and full of citrus. Lots of tobala with some spicy undertones of tepextate. Flavors jump around from dried fruit, toffee, to green grass. She has made some nice ensembles recently and I enjoyed this more than the previous release (Cirial + Espadin).
