About this mezcal

Machetazo Salmiana is made with wild agave Salmiana in the state of San Luis Potosi, Mexico. The agave Salmiana takes about seven years to reach maturity in desert climates like Charcas. Unlike most mezcal, the agave in this mezcal are not cooked in an underground pit oven. The agave used here are cooked through vaporization instead. The agave are then crushed by tahona, fermented in masonry-stone tubs, and single-distilled in a copper bell still.

Machetazo Mezcal

Mezcal Machetazo follows traditional mezcal production processes that have been passed down from generation to generation. The brand offers different varieties of mezcal that are produced in three different states in Mexico: Guerrero, Oaxaca and San Luis Potosí. The name Machetazo symbolizes the complexity and labor of the mezcal production process. With a swing of the machete or machetazo, their mezcaleros mark the beginning of the adventure behind the making of this mystical spirit.

Probably one of the best mezcals I have had. This agave gives way to a citrus, herby easy to drink neat. I like that it has a slightly lower proof, which makes it smooth to consume.

Nice for the price. I bought it for the state other than Oaxaca, and single distillation. Must be great to live in Mexico and freely drink native moonshine. One distillation to me brings up flavors of the mason jar stuff, but from maguey. Smooth and flavorful, not polished, can taste where it comes from. Makes me want to visit.

Liquid jalapeño, but not harsh. Very deep flavor, and at a great price. Will keep on hand going forward.

Great option for a low cost entry into Salmiana. Even found at some Whole Foods this has all the green notes you look for in this agave. For the price – this is a winner if you enjoy the vegetal, jalepeno, and fresh flavors you tend to find with this unique agave.

Some fresh and green character, whit hints of Jalapeno. First mezcal I tried, was very easy and smooth to drink.
