About this destilado de agave

Mezcalosfera Madrecuixe/Bicuixe/Espadin is made by maestro mezcalero Don Emanuel Ramos in Miahuatlan, Oaxaca. The agave are cooked with mezquite and encino, milled by tahona, and double distilled in a copper refrescadera still. The batch made in August 2018 was 370 litres.

Mezcalosfera de Mezcaloteca

Mezcalosfera de Mezcaloteca is the exported bottling from Mezcaloteca, the famous bar in Oaxaca City that is renowned for their educational tastings. They source all of their agave spirits directly from producers in seldom-traveled parts of Oaxaca that are often hard to get to. They put an exceptional amount of information on their labels, and all of their releases are very small batches that exhibit the most unique characteristics of mezcal. Though only a few batches have been brought into the US, there are dozens upon dozens of different varieties available for sale at their tasting room in Oaxaca City. Most of their spirits are labeled “Aguardiente de Agave”, however all of their limited exports are certified “Mezcal”. These mezcals are imported into the United States by Heavy Metl Premium Imports, which also imports popular brands Mezcal Real Minero and Rey Campero Mezcal.

Lote: 05USA-19
Distilled: Aug 2018
370 ltr
47.61% ABV
Initial nasal impact is drying. Aromas of tropical fruit, jasmine.
Initial mouth feel is drying and sweet with moderate heat, even though 47.61 abv.
Flavor of vanilla sugar wafers and melon with floral notes, balanced with mesquite smoke BBQ. A very satisfying ensemble, as are all I’ve had from Mezcalosfera. Don Emmanuel Ramos does it again

Sweet honey on the nose, nice mineralized water, very little heat on the tongue, easy drinker, smooth. My first from the Mezcalosfera brand and I’m eager to try more.
Paid $100 (Potomac Wines, Washington, DC)

I tried this as part of a tasting so didn’t get the lot number. Emmanuel Ramos always makes great Mezcal but this is especially great! Vanilla wafers, pineapple, jasmine, brown sugar. Perfection.

This is delicious & smooth (classic adjective, but still very applicable) with almost perfect balance of some big smoke & fruit (some melon notes in here). Only had a very small sample, but will be after a bottle ASAP. Wish I had more descriptives for this one, but I was at a lost for words – it was that good. Also, this is my first Mezcalosfera, so look forward to sampling the rest of their lineup.

*Purchased a bottle based on above, and this batch seems to taste vastly different. Lote: 05USA-19. Much more smokier with some mesquite and BBQ notes on smell and taste. Orang peels. Not changing initial rating, but had I drank this bottle first it would have been closer to 4-3.75 stars.

Maybe a little disappointed I bought and entire bottle. A rare miss from E. Ramos. Very hot for its abv, almost overpowers the pour. Would love to know the percentages of the agaves used in this blend
