About this mezcal

Miel de Tierra Salmiana is made with agave Salmiana that was grown in the reclusive Carmona region, in southeastern San Luis Potosi. Once harvested, the agave are transported to the Miel de Tierra distillery in Zacatecas. This mezcal is produced more similarly to modern tequila, using a mechanical shredder, autoclave oven, and a copper pot still.

Miel de Tierra Mezcal

Miel de Tierra means Earth’s Honey, and the name comes from the sweet, amber-flushed tree sap, which can only be found in virgin barrels made of fresh natural oak timber. Given the name, Miel de Tierra has a robust barrel-aging program and they also have several unaged releases. Their location in southern Zacatecas makes them a fairly unique brand internationally.

Nose: Green peppers, vegetal, some sweetness

Palate: green grape skins, grass, a little funk peppers; slight bitterness

Good beginner mezcal, the one I pull down for folks who think they don’t like mezcal. Bright and clean and approachable with interesting character. Business seems kinda shady though lol

40% ABV. Definitly an intro mezcal but not subdued in any way. A completely enjoyable and nearly “perfect” Joven. Made from a speices of agave that resides in the deep desert and is indiginous to the high desert area where the peyote cactus comes from. (fuzzy staff, cactusbutton)… and what’s this NOM all about? On the front of the bottle it has F426D (Districto Federal). On the back label it lists NOM S124L so I’m not sure where it comes from.
