About this mezcal
Moteado Chino Silvestre is made from wild grown Agave cupreata in Etúcuaro, Michoacán, Mexico. The agaves are cooked in underground pits, crushed by hand with wooden mallets, fermented with open air yeasts, and double distilled in a Filipino stills. This is produced by mezcalero Juan Pérez García.
Moteado Mezcal
Moteado Mezcal is born from the founder’s, Marisol’s, deep-rooted connection to her heritage. The brand pays homage to the remarkable annual 2,500-mile journey of the monarch butterfly, a journey reminiscent of Marisol’s own family’s migration from Michoacán to California in pursuit of their dreams.
Michoacán, a region blessed with an extraordinary terroir, shaped by its unique climate, soil, and volcanic terrain, is renowned for its agricultural prowess. It proudly stands as the world’s leading exporter of avocados and blackberries, thanks to the volcanic soil nourished by the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt’s countless peaks and the abundant rainfall that graces the land. It is within this remarkable backdrop that Moteado finds its essence.
