About this mezcal

Nucano Cuishe is made with maguey Cuishe (agave Karwinskii) that can take 15 years to mature in this region. It is double distilled in a traditional copper still. This mezcal is decidedly easy to drink. It has vegetal and earthy mineral notes that are found in similar mezcals made with other karwinskii agave.

Nucano Mezcal

Mezcal Nucano is an artisanal mezcal produced in the region of San Dionisio Ocotepec, Oaxaca. Their batches are always limited to ensure artisanal production, and they are made by a 5th generation mezcalero who helps to bring old-world mezcal production into modern times. They make an Anejo, Reposado, and several Joven mezcals that feature different silvestre agave. They are entirely Oaxacan owned and operated.

Has a nice front end burst of the green peppers and earthy flavor, but ends with a slightly harsh heavy smoke that I was hoping would be a little bit more smooth. Good price for a Cuishe in general, but this one gave me a headache the next morning, so I’d stay away from this one. Big reason why I drink Mezcal is because its the cleanest alcohol there is when you wake up. This one disappointed me.

Great cuishe for the price. Lots of bright pepper and fruit with a bit of peat. No bite. The finish is not dry with a metallic note.

Batch NJC01-17. This is really tasty. It has some nice vegetal aromas of mostly root vegetables like carrots and potatoes with a bit of heat. The mouthfeel is light with more heat that results in a slight burn. Once you get over the burn, however, this mezcal is quite enjoyable. It has a good amount of smoke and more notes of fresh green leaves. Given the price, this mezcal is a steal!
