Rayo Seco Cenizo is produced by maestro vinatero Gilberto Roldan in Nombre de Dios, Durango. Wild-harvested maguey Cenizo might be the most common agave in Durango, but this ancestral agave spirit is anything but basic. Look for notes of Mexican hot chocolate, with peppery, sweet, and buttery notes hitting all at once.

Rayo Seco Destilados is a brand featuring some of the finest producers in Guerrero, Mexico and beyond. They represent over five generations and they provide an introduction to the traditions of Guerrero to consumers across the globe. As of 2021, the state of Guerrero was still relatively untouched by many importers due to the decades-long unrest throughout much of the state. This is beginning to change as brands like Rayo Seco are at the forefront of exporting craft spirits from the region. Rayo Seco is also working with producers in other regions of Mexico.

Palate: kinda herbal up front moving into a very soft mouthfeel, cigarette candy, chalky mango, maybe some fig, as it moves to more earthy. Finish starts out with mulch, some cocoa, and a nice leathery take out
This is more straight forward and approachable than other Cenizos I’ve had. Nice fruit, earth, and mouthfeel. Rayo Seco puts out some great stuff at great prices. Worth having on the shelf

Review #27: amazing bundle of fruits like creamy mango, guava, and strawberry with fresh vanilla. There’s some light vegetal notes with bell pepper, some pine, and a damp earthiness supporting it.
The mango really stands out here for me and I love it, I’m definitely a big fan of mango. The fresh fruits contrasted with darker earth notes work together really well. Rayo seco hasn’t missed on any of their bottles

I don’t have specific memories of the flavors, I just remember it being a little spicy and tropical, earthy and very easy sipping for +100 proof.

708 reviewsBatch 202110. Bottle 336/480. Aromas of freshly ground pepper, jalapeno cream, and sweet peppermint. The palate is dry with notes of freshly dried herbs, Oaxacan hot chocolate (with water, not milk), jalapeno muenster cheese, and dry Spanish moss. Very soft and delicate.
