Salvadores Mezcal

Salvadores Mezcal is a brand from Tlacolula de Matamoros, Oaxaca. The brand is a family company that was founded when the current producer’s great-grandfather began making mezcal in the early 1900s. Through several generations of learning and knowledge-transfer, they constructed the Casa Palacios Destilería in 2019 and officially registered the Salvadores brand in 2020.

Batch E7-01 2021, 47%, Bottle #35

Nose – The produce section at the market. Tamarind, peppers, chiles. Some rubber and leather in there for some industrial notes.

Palate – Dry citrus with a kick: grapefruit and orange rind, with a touch of jalapeño. The dryness leads into a slightly nutty taste as a result.

Finish – Bittersweet nuts; walnuts, pecans.

A good and enjoyable Mezcal. This is the first Espadin that ‘wowed’ me. Refined flavor, smooth feel, no burn. Gives off the impression of a carefully crafted and well made product. And it delivers. Consider this as a daily sipper.

ABV – 42%
Nose – Quite a bit of caramel. Dried up grass. Slight ethanol.

Palate – Great thicker viscosity. Over roasted caramel. A little bit of orange creamsicle. This is an honest 42% ABV. A very nice espadin!
Rating: 3.75 stars

ABV – 47%
Nose & Palate – See above although the flavors pop even more (and a sharper, cleaner flavor).
Rating: 4.25 stars

Overall – both of these are rock solid!
