About this mezcal

Siete Misterios Tobala is made with maguey Tobala. This agave is very small, meaning that it requires lots of harvesting to produce a very small batch. This mezcal demonstrates the versatility of the spirit as it represents flavors from across the palate spectrum. This mezcal is milled by hand and distilled in clay pots.

Siete Misterios Mezcal

Siete Misterios was founded in 2010 with the intent of keeping traditional mezcal production at the forefront of the mezcal industry. They produce a wide range of mezcals that all highlight a single agave varietal. They are backed by those who are deeply saddened by the industrialization seen in most tequila and some low-grade mezcal, and they're doing everything in their power to keep the art of the mezcalero alive. The mezcaleros making their bottles change batch to batch, so one batch's bottles may taste entirely different from the next batch's bottles. This gives Siete Misterios a lot of variety in it's bottling as each batch is made by a different person, with agave grown in a slightly different micro-climate, and the mezcal may hold a slightly different ABV. Make sure to check your bottle for these details.

Clay, fruit and agave on the nose.
Earthiness and clay with orange peel, melon, brine on the palate.
If I compare this to the Vago Tobala I tried recently (and will review soon) it’s a bit more muted. Maybe the clay softens it, maybe it’s the lower ABV, which may suit some. But I grave the strong flavours.
Still, a high quality spirit and I enjoyed it.

Earth and agave notes at first, then a rich sweetness thanks to the Tobala. Less syrup than my last Tobala, but enough to keep on the top shelf for sipping, although I will confess to making a mezcal margarita on Margarita Day 2019. Flavours linger with a hint of fruits and some citrus on the back palette. Makes a nice slow sipper. Lot TBL01/17. Bottle 823/1168. 47.3%. Don Armando G.

Clay on the nose. This tobala has nice flavor of lemon zest, roasted vanilla, cloves, and clay. A bit clay-heavy but tasty and robust nonetheless. This batch was from mezcalero Don Eleuterio Ogarro. 50.3% ABV. Lot 06/15.
