About this pox

Siglo Cero Pox is made from distilled corn (white, red, yellow, and black), sugar cane, and wheat. These ingredients are fermented in wooden casks and double distilled in copper stills. This spirit is produced in the community of San Juan Chamula, Chiapas. In this region, it’s common to chew a coffee bean before taking a sip of Pox.

Siglo Cero Pox

Siglo Cero Pox is committed to show the Pox spirit to the world in all it’s richness, in it’s cultural, ceremonial, and day to day importance. They are determined to rescue and preserve the original Pox recipe, which has been used for centuries by the Tzotzil/Mayan community.

Very interesting and different from Mezcal – this is lighter and thinner and reminds me more of moonshine (which I love) than what I typically sip on. Lots of corn and grain earthiness flavors and the finish stayed with me longer than I expected it to. Not something I would drink on a daily basis but a great historical and conversation piece nonetheless.

This was a really fun addition to my collection and like Pulque this is something that everybody should try at least once IMO. There is another Pox I tried called “Poxna Artesianal” that I liked a little bit better but it is not available to review on this website and I only had a pour of it so more research is still required for a full fair comparison.

My bottle said 38% a little watered down, but a great spirit to sip with friends! Id rather stick to Mezcal or Raicilla though

Give this a try! I get lots of blue corn masa and mellow white rum. The wheat notes are like an unaged Weller wheat bourbon. I split a bottle with a friend so mine has been half empty for a year or more – that might have mellowed it out a bit. I think this could be great in cocktails.

There are a bunch of fake reviews here – they are pretty obvious to spot. It is unfortunate that friends of the brand owner or whomever decided to publish their WORTHLESS “tasting notes”. Capital letters make words more intense 😉

Ignore the fake reviews, but don’t pass up a taste of this unique spirit. FYI, the average price for a 750ml is $35 USD. For the price, uniqueness, and versatility.. this is easily 3.5 stars. Lot 003, 42.2%.

It is a unique and different drink, the pox IS NOT MEZCAL and it IS NOT TEQUILA, it cannot be compared, it is another type of completely traditional drink from Mexico.
It is an ancestral drink where all the ingredients are perfectly combined- I highly recommend it

Tough to review this, since it’s the only pox I’ve ever had, and probably ever will. Considering it isn’t an agave spirit, I’m trying not to judge this against the mezcals I’m normally sipping.

Lots going on here in terms of aroma. Something new each time. Coffee, chocolate, light corn aroma, kind of funky smelling, smells like glue at times.

Pretty full bodied, honestly more burn than I expected at the proof point. Definitely taste a little bit of dark chocolate, with some moonshine-like corn flavor thrown in there too.

An interesting experience, for sure.

I read a couple of reviews about this POX and I think they are compering it with an agave spirit, and this is very different. Siglo Cero is my favorite Pox. All the flavors are perfectly combined. If you want to try an exotic spirit made of corn this your best option.

I wanted to like this, because it sounded fun and weird.

But then I tried it, and it was certainly weird and not too fun.

Not even sure how to rate this. Bought a bottle a couple of years ago when it first hit the US, and maybe 95% of the liquid is still sitting in the bottle. Very sweet. Tastes like white dog corn whiskey mixed with xtabentun. Rough. Not for me… definitely gonna have to either pass off to friends to try or use in cocktails from here on out
