I have finished my bottle and didn’t make tasting notes, but I wonder if the first reviewer had a bad sample. We thought this was excellent.
Edition 2 from 2020, fascinating sotol. Nose and taste of some kind of berry that I’ve never had before. Buttery croissant. A bit of green forest but only mildly so. Medium texture. Not extreme like the few other sotols I’ve had, but plenty of complexity and very delightful.
The most normal of the three in Agave Mixtape #4, but certainly still a good one. Birthday cake, fruity but not fruited, caramelized milk, banana peel, bakery notes, Mexican brown sugar and cinnamon. Just a touch of saltiness at the edge of the tongue that balances all the rest nicely.
Absolutely loved this. Lots of dark berries, like black currants and blackberry. Some sort of fermented cream. A bit of old plastic bucket on the finish, but that can’t hurt how intoxicating the whole experience is. My partner adds: Menthol cigarettes after a teenage punk rock show (more metaphorically than literally), sweat and sweet malt liquor drinks, summer and danger and joy) Agave Mixtape #4 50.9% lot# ENSEGV2004
Agave Mixtape #4. I’m Gregor Samsa and I awoke from uneasy dreams to find that mezcal tastes like this now. No fruit, wet animal, snake leather. A bit later: goat barn, hay bales, country fair, licking a horse’s neck. This is crazy stuff, so earthy. Some sweet elements too, amidst the bitter strangeness, that are hard to qualify. We don’t love it in the way that we would crave it at random moments in the future, but it would be a sadder life to have not tasted it.
