Lot 01/19. Alberto Vasquez, Sola de Vega. Nose is dark fruit, clay, slate. The palate has chocolate, coffee, plums, root beer with a little spice on the finish.
Batch: March 2019. Nose has grape, bubble gum and rainforest. Taste similar to a Oaxacan mexicano, very cool they grew their own with seeds from Oaxaca. It has some creaminess, grape hard candy, earthiness and coffee.
Batch: March 2019. My favorite of the current releases from Palomas. Nose has lemon/lime and fresh flowers. The palate is similar to the nose citrus, anise, tropical fruits. The finish is like a tropical negroni.
Batch: March 2019. Smells of green apples, and oranges. On the palate I get orange creamsicle, and sour gummies. The finish is not as good as I’d hope it’s a bit bitter as previously said which lowers it a tad on my score. Overall it’s tropical and tasty.
Truly a special bottling. The perfect tequila. Nose is real clean, notes of black pepper and floral. Has silky texture, it’s delicate. Tropical, caramel on the palate. Worth a buy.
Batch: JALU1122. Wet earth and clay on the nose. Taste of dark fruit, holiday spice, sugar cookies and leather with a long finish.
Batch April 2022 bottle 33/70. Nose has citrus & teriyaki sauce. On the palate I get the acidic champagne flavors others get. Also reminds me of sour Skittles with a savory finish. A unique one.
Discovered this gem in Copenhagen at The Barking Dog. My favorite La Venenosa bottle to date. Nose has soy sauce and chocolate. Really complex on the palate. Get chocolate covered berries, and sage with a long lasting finish.
Batch JAEN1122
The nose has clay and sugar cane. On the palate it starts out earthy and tobacco then has a finishing punch of sweet espadin and red berries. It’s a nice 50/50 ensemble showing both expressions.
Batch JAEC1122
One of the more interesting espadins I’ve had this year. The nose smells of butterscotch, wet forest and ripe agave. The palate is minerally & earthy. It’s really complex, rich, and has a long sweet finish. This is one I keep going back to.
Batch JAME1122. This has an earthy, clay nose. On the palate, it immediately reminded me of a good tequila. It has flavors of vanilla, oak, and cinnamon. Like all the Creadors I’ve tried, it has a great long, full finish.
Great nose, soft, sweet baked goods. This is creamy bright and delicious. Snickerdoodle cookie, melon and cayenne pepper
May 2019. This is bursting with flavor. The nose is rustic but bright. Sweet, rich and fruity. Could drink this forever.
Jan 2018. Picked this batch up at Palomas Mensajeras. They’re making some great mezcal, some of the best I’ve had from Michoacán. Beautiful nose on this, it’s tropical and inviting. This is soft with big flavors of tropical fruits and cocoa. It has a creamy long finish.
Very light flavor here. It does have tropical fruits and it’s sweet. Not very smokey. Would be a good alternative to regular vida for cocktails.
Was surprised at this, it’s good. Has good flavor for 43% but a little watery. It’s minty, grassy, & peppery.
Vol 5. Lote 005. Oct 2021. Bottle 39/248. The batch was fermented in wood tanks, they also have batches fermented in stone.
One of my favorite offerings from Chacolo. Nose has juicy citrus, & fresh rain. This is a delicate mezcal. The palate reminds me of lemon meringue pie. The finish is long, is a bit perfumed and dry.
I was excited to try this and oh boy was it a let down. The nose was pure gasoline and the palate was, well the same. I couldn’t pick up any pleasant notes. It might need a long time resting. Skip this one.
A tasty one! Grass and mint dominate. Feels like a classic sotol and better than I expected
