Aroma – Bright and fruity, with lots of orange flesh and peel, green pepper, white pepper, cotton candy, and oyster shell.

Flavor – More luscious orange, with orange blossom, clove, leather, fig, and milk chocolate.

This is a dense and complex mezcal, at times overwhelming, but ultimately very enjoyable.

Lot D5019-J

Aroma – Bright and mineral, with leathery smoke. Stone fruit, mostly peach, lime peel.

Flavor – A great tension between smoke and fruit – lots of sour fruit – Calamansi orange, green banana, lime juice, with powerful earthy smoke, and massive acidity, with just a tinge of astringency.

This is a very complete mezcal, with really excellent structure – the bursting acid and fruit contrasting pleasantly with smoke and mineral qualities.

The aroma is fruity and smoky, with grilled cantaloupe, mango, raspberry, as well as white pepper, fresh cut grass, green bell pepper, and limestone. The flavor has similar fruit notes, with cantaloupe and raspberry most present, as well as white grape, and then a big salty side, limestone, and seaside air. Overall this is extremely balanced and easy going, with gentle flavors, nothing in your face other than the fresh salty finish.

The aroma here is meaty and floral, with very little smoke. White flowers, white pepper, salami, thyme, and strawberry mousse. The flavor is sweet upfront, with that fruity strawberry mousse I sensed very strong, with a little cucumber, white flowers, white pepper, and butterscotch. Overall simple, but pleasant – fruity, with very little smoke, and a powerful floral quality.

The aroma is sharp and deeply layered, with candle wax, vanilla, cream, leather, nougat, cucumber, honeydew, and cedar. The flavor is less aggressive than the aroma, and it is supported by a viscous and clinging mouthfeel. I detect notes of honey, paraffin, melon, cream, vanilla, roasted corn, and a very mild, silky smoke. The overall impression is rather sweet, quite easygoing, and definitely light on smoke, but big on layered, shifting flavors.

Lot 00618. The aroma is vibrant, with fruity and floral notes dominating. with green banana, passion fruit, watermelon, carnation, and rose most apparent. The flavor leads with a full but light tinted smoke, with notes of grilled fruit, melon, toasted marshmallow, with a lingering sweet smoke and floral finish. Overall a really nice sipping mezcal – definitely a sweet and fruity expression, but with a lingering quality that makes it rather intriguing.
