Nacional 1937

Sep 13, 2022

Lote: N-C0001. Mezcalero: Celso Martinez Lopez.
Nose: Green Pepper, Herbs.
Sip: Melon, Sweet Corn, Tree Sap.
Finish: Light, splashy, bright on the tongue.
Notes: Really fun karwinskii variant. Tried this at Mexico in a Bottle – Denver for the first time just before the pandemic started and it was my favorite of their lineup. Had to grab a bottle after that. Great addition to any karwinskii tasting!

Cuentacuentos Cuish

Jul 19, 2022

Lote: CCCM7. Mezcalero: Maximiliano “Serafin” Garcia Geronimo.
Nose: Cantaloupe, Wet Stone, Pepper Skins.
Sip: Green Grass, Raisins, Dry Spices.
Finish: Mellow, dry mid-tongue, savory edge of palate.
Notes: Wow, what a well made cuish! As a karwinskii fanatic this one hits all the levels. Fresh nose, brightly bursting flavors, and a lovely lingering finish are sure to make me miss this bottle once I finish it. Thankfully that hasn’t happened yet!

Rey Campero Mexicano

Lote: DS006-M. Mezcalero: Romulo Sanchez Parada.
Nose: Model Glue, Green Bananas, Light Leather.
Sip: Dry Spices, Sweet Red Licorice, Green/Yellow Peppers.
Finish: Numbing effect on the tongue, splashy finish.
Notes: A. rhodacantha is another species I tend to favor and this bottle was definitely surprising in several ways! Very enjoyable overall and I’ll definitely keep an eye out for other batches.

Rey Campero Madre-Cuishe

Feb 4, 2022

Lote: DS011-MC. Mezcalero: Romulo Sanchez Parada.
Nose: Light Nectar, Grassy, Model Paint(?), Dry Moss, Red Wine / Grapeskins.
Sip: Smooth Heat, Canteloupe(?), Caramel, Bourbon(?).
Finish: Front edge of tongue, back top of throat.
Notes: I’m a big fan of A. karwinskii in general and this Madre-Cuishe definitely delivers! Complex nose and sip, a bit hot as others note, but overall a really fun expression.

Rey Campero Jabali

Feb 4, 2022

Lote: DS015-J. Mezcalero: Romulo Sanchez Parada.
Nose: Rubber, Petrol, Dried Fruits, Fresh Tennis Balls (haha)!
Sip: Dry Mouthfeel, Rubber, Minerality, Light Vegetal notes.
Finish: Sensation along mid-tongue line and top of mouth behind front teeth.
Notes: Very unique batch! Jabali always pulls very diverse profiles together, and I really liked the flavors here. Got the 200ml version and I might have to find the 750ml once this runs out!
