Del Maguey San Dionisio Ocotepec

Feb 23, 2020

Lot SDO-171. Aromas of cooked asparagus, green olives, dry tobacco, and freshly chopped mint. Light palate with some legs. More floral in flavor while the nose was mostly vegetative. Palate has subtle notes of pine needles, hay, sage, old hemp, a bit of bog, and freshly tanned leather. For the price, this is a steal.

Real Minero Largo, Tobala

Feb 23, 2020

Batch ARMLT-03. Bottle 139/282. 52.48%. Aromas of peanuts, cream, and cashews. Full bodied. Not a knock-your-socks-off batch but still amazing. Like The War on Drugs, A Deeper Understanding album, mellow yet nuanced, delicate, and deep.

Rey Campero Tepextate + Pulquero

Feb 15, 2020

Lot DS001-TP from 2017. Peppery aromas. Jalapeños, bacon, and potatoes. Tastes almost exactly like it smells, maybe with a bit more green and black pepper. Heavy on the peppery Tepextate notes.

Rey Campero Coyote

Feb 14, 2020

Sweet corn aromas. Also subtle notes of cantaloupe. Pairs well with Our Own Candle Company Cedarwood-Vanilla. Palate of candied yams. Sweet potatoes. Subtle but with finesse. This is like a great jazz Ensamble at low volume: quiet but enjoyable.

Vago Mexicanito en Barro

Feb 10, 2020

Chicago exclusive. Smells like cinnamon, sand, and dried lavender. Heavy slate, clay, and minerals on the palate. Light and floral but with lots of dry dusty clay and dust-in-the-wind type of notes. Leathery with a bit of smoke and mesquite, like bbq brisket bark.

5 Sentidos Chino

Feb 10, 2020

Woah. Strong aromas of pink and red Starburst. Smells amazing. You can almost chew the Starburst, the aroma is so strong. Tastes like pure Fun Dip. Sipping this immediately brought on conversation of youth baseball and eating massive amounts of sugar as a child. Very sweet and delicious and a great conversation starter.

5 Sentidos Bicuixe-Madrecuixe

Jan 20, 2020

Batch EN02. Bottle 97/268. Aromas of fresh green grass and cucumbers. Tastes of Air Heads, yellow Skittles, and vanilla ice cream. Finish has some fruit and vegetable flavors that seems to bounce back and forth. This producer has a signature taste for sure. Everything is very clean and grounded in this mineral note that is hard to describe.

5 Sentidos Madrecuixe – Atenogenes García

Jan 20, 2020

Batch MC01. Bottle 48/230. Clean aromas of spearmint, vanilla, and menthol. The palate is thick, a bit chalky, and clean. Tastes like freshly cooked agave. Sweet notes of licorice, almonds, and minerals.

Pensador Ensamble

Jan 20, 2020

Aromas of fresh green vegetables, Earth, and minerals. Very clean nose. Semi-viscous and balanced palate. Notes of chick peas, sweet salt, vanilla bean, and fresh cut grass. Very clean palate. Very nice.

Palenqueros Mexicano

Dec 29, 2019

Batch VGMX01. Beautiful nose, full of sweet grains, sourdough, brown sugar, maple syrup, perfume, lavender, and rose water. The palate has some nice grilled fruits, charred apricot, cooked plantains, grilled green peppers. Also some notes of grape soda, fabric softener, jasmine, hibiscus, and chalk. Really enjoyable.

Palenqueros Madrecuishe

Dec 13, 2019

Batch AOMA01. Pairs well with Kashmir by Led Zeppelin. Rich, heavy but bright, rolling aromas, and clean but layered rhythms. Aromas of perfume, lilac, and sweet fruits like peaches, tangerine, and summer breeze. Big and bodacious on the palate. Notes of fresh cotton, clean minerals, purple flowers, sea breeze, and lavender. This is exceptionally clean in all ways.

Pelotón de la Muerte Espadin

Dec 13, 2019

Lot 16CUT1118. Astringent. Sharp aromas for 40% ABV. Leathery palate with a ton of smoke. This probably a decent mixer for Smokey cocktails. Not the best for sipping neat.

El Jolgorio Sierrudo

Dec 13, 2019

Edition 01. Bottle 67/400. Aromas of chocolate, nibs, light perfume. Tastes of peanut brittle, dried plantains, dark cherries. This good, not great. Very thin and not super complex. I like it alright but there are mezcals at 1/4 the price that I enjoy just as much.

NETA Bicuixe – Hermógenes Vasquez

Dec 8, 2019

April 2016. Bottle 006/132. Serious bicuixe here! Aromas of vanilla beans, sour apples, dry grass, and macadamia. Tastes like skittles, sugary fruit, and Sweet Tarts. Medium body. This is a total bombshell. Absolute fire. Awesome. Tasted this alongside 4 other allstar bicuixes, and this stood above them all.

5 Sentidos Candelillo

Dec 1, 2019

Lot MXTC06-01. This really opens up! It’s changed quite a bit since opening the bottle, adding depth the longer it sits. This karwinskii is super interesting. It’s like meeting up with an old friend, who you used to do a lot of crazy stuff with as a kid, and finding that the friend is still doing all the same crazy stuff from your past. Lots of sour citrus on the nose, with aromas of limes, lemons, and pickled jalapeno. The palate is well settled with a nice leathery, campfire pocket holding rougher notes of fresh green peppers, cream, key lime, and tobacco.

La Luna Chino

Nov 27, 2019

Lot 3. Aromas of pink lemonade, peach, and lime. The Palate is big, rich, and full. Reminiscent of post-modern design, lemonade, and Cuban cigars.

La Luna Manso Sahuayo

Nov 27, 2019

Lot 1. Smells incredible! Aromas of strawberry lemonade. Sour with some additional hints of cotton candy on the nose. The palate is almost identical to the nose. Tastes like pink lemonade and Popsicle, like a very high ABV shandy. Very big and bright. I dig it.

La Luna Tequilana

Nov 27, 2019

Lot 2. New car smell. Freshly produced interior building materials on the nose. Tastes like blueberries, papaya, and grilled pineapple. Very fruity on the palate in comparison to the nose. I’m super into this batch. If only tequila could taste like this!

Chacolo Brocha – Ixtero Amarillo

Nov 23, 2019

Lot 2 from Sept 2016. Bottle 253/1466. Smells piney with hints of vanilla, spearmint, and menthol. Palate is balanced and full. Hints cinnamon and Christmas (candy canes, mistletoe, etc…). Some mint on the palate as well, mostly spearmint and a bit of menthol.

Wahaka Ensamble en Barro

Nov 23, 2019

Heavy clay. Funky aromas. Sour apples and sharp cheddar cheese on the nose. Super viscous and well rounded. This is big and bright. Very cheesy, buttery, and thick. Tried this from a pre-release bottle that didn’t have a batch number, but believe it would have been first batch into the US.
