My first time enjoying mezcal was in 2014 - on a trip to Oaxaca. There were bottles on the tables of a small food spot, complimentary mezcal. They were unmarked, but I was immediately hooked.
The first bottle I tasted with a label was Montelobos Joven, Espadín.
I really like Jabali, and most of the Karwinskii varieties.
