Lot SJR108/20
Decent mezcal, sipping was ok. Some rough edges but I liked the sweetness from the agave.
Lot SCM-193
Decent overall, but I prefer Chichicapa. This has less fruit notes and more of a lactic edge, probably from clay pot? I liked it more as I got through the bottle, but I wouldn’t explore this one again.
CAP02-20 Bottle 199/232
I tried really hard to like this and gave it a fair shot over 4 months of sipping off and on. The predominant flavor to me was butyric acid which is just awful. I think I’m finding I don’t like clay pot distillation.
Lot EG003 Bottle 282/665
Very good Tobala. Banana aroma, smokey, alcohol is prominent. Bit hot, but finished the bottle faster than others.
Lot DS015-J
Strong aroma of fresh tennis balls, latex, lactic acid. Peach rings and fruity profile, minerals follow. Good.
Lot SBG002/20 Bottle 401/1380
Really liked this one, little softer than San Luis. Fruity notes and roasted agave with some wet stone at the end. Good sipper and good in cocktails. Never had a bad pour from Alipus.
WKH-049
Leaves the imagination with nothing. No smoke, no flavors, very light and muted on everything. Thin, watery. Vida is a better mixer for sure.
Lot 8, 11/19, 47% ABV
Too vegetal and sharp for me. Vegetal, briney and lactic acidity, lots of things going on, I just don’t care for any of it. I used this in Palomas to finish the bottle. Not a fan.
Lot ESP-023, 16/6/22
Nose of roasted agave, very tequila-like, smoke is light. Lime and pineapple round of flavor. Very nice mouth feel and heat from the 48%. Awesome Espadin sipper.
Bottle LT0825
This was beautiful. Drank with friends on a camping trip. Fruity, gentle smoke, medium to full bodied. Had an amazing aroma. I will pick up another bottle and keep around for emergencies.
This was complex. Lots of weird flavors I can’t put my hands on. I wish it was a bit sweeter and had slightly more body. An interesting ensemble.
Had a pour at a bar. It was ok, medicinal, lightly grilled vegetables. I don’t think I will search this out again.
VDM-213
Best for when out at night and it’s the only option at the bar. I’ve found a handful of better options at the price point. Rubbery bandaids, smoke, a bit more going on than Vida.
Lot 0919AC
Very soft flavors, pure, subtle. The alcohol is a dominant flavor since everything else is so subtle. Definitely unique, nice addition to a collection to round out different expressions of agave.
Lot 00322
I really liked this at times, and just thought it was ok at others. The Barril adds sharpness, grassy. Smoke is evident. Good for the price.
Had at Los Coñejos in ABQ.
Bottle 39/228. Lot 01, 170 liters.
Don’t remember much, other than it was delicious. I would definitely spend the money on this one. I’ll be hunting this down so I can experience again.
Lot VV.05.21.PTTE
Corn sweetness, hot, syrupy. More complex than I imagined.
Batch 00922BEO46
Watery, smokey with hints of roasted agave. Makes a great cocktail at a good price point.
CLM-32
Banana, roasted agave. Less smokey, wavering into tequila territory. Solid sipper.
Had at Los Coñejos, in ABQ.
Lot 6, Bottle 39/46
I can’t say a whole lot about this. Very pure tasting, fruity aroma. That’s about it.
