Creyente Tobala is a blend of two different mezcals made with maguey Tobala (agave Potatorum). The two mezcals are produced traditionally, but separately. Following the distillation process, the mezcals from both regions are blended together before bottling. On the label, the bear represents the robust body of the mezcal. The deer represents sweetness and brings earthy and floral notes. The mysterious jaguar is elegant and powerful and represents the smoky character of the mezcal.
Creyente Mezcal
Mezcal Creyente was launched in the summer of 2016 by the tequila giant José Cuervo. They currently market a single blended mezcal to the international market. Creyente means “believer” in Spanish, as the brand was founded on the belief that anything is possible.

643 reviewsSuper light. Sipping after a stronger mezcal, Gracias a Dios Cupreata (45% ABV), and the Creyente has hardly any flavor. Sweet. Mild. Can understand why it is the bartender’s first recommendation given the Tulum crowd. It becomes even less appealing as it goes on and you sip more. Tried at Gitano in Tulum and didn’t catch the batch number.

7 reviewsOne of my favorit bottles. It’s smooth, subtle and carries so many flavour notes. The bottle art is beautiful and the brand is comitted. I would love to see what this company can do if they made an Ancestral mezcal! Maybe?

9 reviewsStrong berry nose, slight vegetal. Very sweet in the pallet, touch of pepper. Exceptionally smooth, bit too much for me. Haven’t had many tobalas, but will definitely aim over 80 proof next time. $60 down south, worth the try but I don’t see myself going back to it until I run out of options. Was unaware it’s a Cuervo product, I can understand the subtleness for its marketability.
