About this mezcal

Koch Arroqueno Olla de Barro is made with maguey Arroqueno (agave Americana) that are harvested after 15 years of growth. The agave are cooked in an underground pit oven, mashed by hand with mallets, fermented with open air yeasts in cypress vats, and double distilled in a clay pot still.

Koch Mezcal

Carlos Moreno’s family has been linked to mezcal since the beginning of the 20th century. In 2009, Carlos resumed the family tradition and teamed up with 5th generation maestro mezcalero Pedro Hernandez to create Koch El Mezcal de Oaxaca, with the goal of preserving and promoting mezcal culture. After 10 years of business, they’ve now integrated more than 15 communities and 50 producing families into their collective. Each batch will vary, so check your bottle for details.

49.73%ABV.

Fantastic deep nose, buttercream, Mexcian vanilla, savory meaty earthiness. Ground chocolates, yeast, mousse, truffles, dessicated fruitiness/esters, toasted coconut shavings, tickles of wet grass. Medium-low smoke, good sweetness on palette. Enough minerality, complex, good finish. Really happy with how this one has slightly oxidized and softened. Rich and delicious.

49.73% ABV. tasted blind!

nose: pencil shavings, mild tartness and acidity, ginger, cinnamon, white pepper, maybe a little cocoa, and light stone fruit

palate: sweet! nice spice, strong cinnamon plus allspice and cardamom, some banana, generic green vegetal notes, nutty popcorn

things get drier on the finish and there’s a bit of bell pepper. this is good.

Nice Arroqueño with notes of wet earth and lots of tropical fruits. I would like to try more from this brand.

Delicious. Tried this at Todos Santos, the suggestion for trying out a new agave. Would like to try more arroqueno.
