About this mezcal
Koch Lumbre is made with 100% wild maguey Lumbre, which is not commonly used, or at least is not commonly used under that name. This mezcal is made by mezcalero Pedro Hernandez in San Baltazar. It has notes of sweet, fresh cocoa.
Carlos Moreno’s family has been linked to mezcal since the beginning of the 20th century. In 2009, Carlos resumed the family tradition and teamed up with 5th generation maestro mezcalero Pedro Hernandez to create Koch El Mezcal de Oaxaca, with the goal of preserving and promoting mezcal culture. After 10 years of business, they’ve now integrated more than 15 communities and 50 producing families into their collective. Each batch will vary, so check your bottle for details.

Mineral nose, a bit herbal, some toffee and something woody/nutty.
On the palate, it is really interesting; maguey lumbre could very well be a karwinskii. There are flavours of macadamia and coconut, but also a herbal character reminding me more about other juices. Also some citrus rinds, and green apples, not to mention leather and tobacco. Great mezcal.
Very unique Mezcal.
this is very good.delicate with notes of cacao, pineapple and mellow agave.very soft but full of flavor.has similar personality to other koch varieties but is distinct.first time to try a lumbre and really dont know how to compare it to other agave.excellent choice as an opener for the evening.very mellow.
