About this mezcal

Mezcal Metiche 49 is produced by mezcalero Juan Manuel Pérez Juárez in Charcas, a town and municipality in the state of San Luis Potosí in central Mexico. Charcas is at an elevation of 6,627 feet. The agave Salmiana used in this mezcal grows for about 13 years on the high plateaus of San Luis Potosí. The soil, weather and excess rain, as well as the intensity of the sun in this region give the agave Salmiana and this mezcal unique and memorable flavors. Using productions methods that haven’t changed since 1870, the agaves are cooked in stone ovens. The resulting spirit is soft, not smoked. At 98-proof, Mezcal Metiche 49 is a higher-proof version of Mezcal Metiche.

this is very good mezcal.4 and a half stars.the nose has lots of spice and black pepper.the initial taste is rich with agave sweetness.it morphs into a dairy quality that reminds me of a spicy cheese dip.i get a similar taste with the derrumbes potosi.i assume this is a flavor profile of agave salmiana but have had only two salmiana mezcals.the finish has no smoke with green peppers and agave sweetness.it might not be for everyones taste but i found it to be very enjoyable and a great price point.excellent quality.i value mezcals that are unique.

Enjoyed this mezcal a few times in San Francisco and loved it. At nearly 100 proof there is no bite to this mezcal, it’s approachable and not smoky. That said, the flavors aren’t shy. The agave Salmiana here is spicy and pronounced with notes of fresh peppers and soft fruit. Try this if you see it.
