About this mezcal
Zopenco Espadin is made with maguey Espadin (agave Angustifolia) that is 8-12 years old when harvested and cooked in a stone pit oven. The cooked agaves are crushed by a horse-drawn tahona. After fermenting in a wood vat, they are double distilled in copper stills.
Zopenco is a mezcal brand from Oaxaca that produces small batches of Espadin, Tobala, Cuishe and some special editions distilled with fruit and flowers per the traditions of the producer. The maestro mezcalero, Moisés Hernández, is also a partner in the brand and his family has been producing mezcal for several generations. The brand is based on three core values/principles: Fair Trade – Quality – Sustainability.
