Fidencio Clasico

May 6, 2021

I’m surprised by the low score for this. Fidencio Clasico, has been my mainstay for home bartending for years now. It has one of my favorite noses (nicely mineral and smoky without any funky cheese) and while the flavor is hot up front, I’ve found that bite fades pretty quickly. I may not recommend it as an introduction to Mezcal newbies looking for a straight sipper, but if you enjoy heat and/or are mixing I haven’t found a better alternative in the low-mid 30s.

My favorite Paloma recipe includes Fidencio Clasico topped with San Pellegrino’s Pompelmo soda.
Current bottle is Lot C0920, ABV is noted as 47.3%

Montelobos Espadin

May 6, 2021

I was disappointed by Montelobos Espadin, the nose is intriguing, but for me the palate was just too flat. In my opinion, Union Uno (for sipping/mixing) and Fidencio Clasico (for mixing) are better options at this price point.

Los Amantes Anejo

May 5, 2021

While my experience with Mezcal so far has been limited to bottles in the $30-$45 range (Union Uno, Fidencio, El Silencio Reposado), this is certainly the most enjoyable sipping mezcal I’ve had so far. Has an extremely smooth finish but still retains a mild and pleasant kick on first taste. Would absolutely recommend.
