About this destilado de agave
Aguerrido Zacate Limon from Erika Meneses is produced in Atempa, Guerrero using Agave cupreata. Doña Erika cooks her agave in a pit oven, mills the cooked agave using a shredder, ferments the agaves with open air yeasts, and double distills in a copper alembic still. In this release, she distills the agave with lemongrass.
Mezcal Aguerrido is a brand that comes from the heart of the state of Guerrero, one of the least represented mezcal producing states due to the difficulties with narco-traffickers in the area. The brand is a union of maestros mezcaleros from Chilapa, Guerrero including Don Refugio, Don Ciro (R.I.P.), Don Tomás, Don Benigno, Dona Gabina, y Don Antonio.

2021 batch: Nose is a nice lemon, earthy, grass smell, & dry. The palate is a bit over whelming with the lemon grass taste.
This was good as a one off but I would not buy a bottle.
2021 batch. This is a left turn from all of the other Aguerrido offerings because it’s distilled with lemongrass. On the nose, I get lemon cookies. The palate is similar, spicy lemongrass bomb. The lemongrass overrides the other cupreata notes. This is more of a novelty mezcal for me, unique and enjoyable, but wouldn’t need a full bottle.
