Alacrán Auténtico Joven is a bit smokey with a hint of fruit and herbs. This mezcal is produced by maestro mezcalero Lucio Morales.
About this mezcal
Alacrán Joven is made with agave Espadin in San Dionisio Ocotepec, Oaxaca. The agaves are cooked in an underground oven, naturally fermented, and double distilled in copper pots. On the palate, there’s a bit of mesquite smoke, dried citrus peel, and fresh oregano.
Alacrán Mezcal
Auténtico Mezcal Alacrán (AMA) is the mezcal arm of the Alacrán brand that also produces tequila. The brand was established in 2010. They offer several varieties of tequila and make their mezcal with agave Espadin. All of their mezcal is produced by Don Lucio Morales in San Dionisio Ocotepec. Don Lucio is the uncle of Alberto Morales, who produces Wahaka Mezcal across the street.

I expected less after the previous reviews. Mild smoke on the nose, fresh a little bit vanilla. On the palate sweet agave and get vanilla. Nice sip, not complex.

Old lemon juice and old agave.
Not sure if I can finish it (edit: I “shot” the last sip). Mild lemon and agave. Muddled sugar water. Bland.

55 reviewsI tried the 46% ABV version with the opaque white bottle. Still 100% Agave Espadin. restrained smoke on the nose. Capsicum dominates the mid palate. Good for mixing, decent sipper.
