About this mezcal

Alma Libre Cuishe is produced by maestro Efraín Hernández in Santiago Matatlan, Oaxaca. The agave are traditionally cooked in an underground oven for 4 to 7 days, milled by horse-drawn tahona, fermented in open air with natural yeasts, and double distilled in copper stills.

Alma Libre Mezcal

Mezcal Alma Libre was founded by Matthias and Sören (of Germany) with the goal of sharing the art of mezcal with more of Europe and creating added value for everyone involved in a fair and transparent way: the hard-working field workers, the experienced Maestro Mezcalero, as well as bar and restaurant partners.

Aromas of wet clay, grapefruit peel and maybe some herbal spice, a little bit smoke. More citrus on the palate, fresh, really nice. Less minerality than the nose hints at, some spice, Brazil nut. Well integrated alcohol, good mouthfeel. Edit: I felt I needed to bump half a star due to the surprisingly low price point, so that the premises of my reviews are more consistent.
