About this mezcal
Coretesanto Espadin is an artisanal mezcal produced by maestra mezcalera Olivia Martinez in San Mateo Macuilxóchitl, Oaxaca, México. Olivia is the third generation of a family of maestros mezcaleros. She is creating her own mezcal legacy alongside her husband, maestro mezcalero Marcelo Santiago, and their daughters, who are learning to produce mezcal. Cortesanto Mezcal is made using 100% maguey Espadin, cooked in an underground oven, milled using a horse-drawn stone tahona, fermented in pine and oak wood, and double distilled in copper alembic stills.
Cortesanto Mezcal
Cortesanto comes from the union of the words “corte” and “santo”. The cut of the agave is a fundamental part of the mezcal production process. It is considered sacred by the ancient pre-Hispanic peoples and it is a tradition kept for generations. In addition, the royal court (also translated as “corte” in Spanish) recognized the noble exploits of brave knights of the past who fought tirelessly to achieve their objectives. Cortesanto Mezcal honors the legacy of the modern paladin.
