About this mezcal
Descartes Espadin is created using maguey Espadin (Agave angustifolia) from San Luis Del Rio, Oaxaca by third generation maestro mezcalero Don Enrique Hernández Zenea. The agaves are cooked underground for 3-5 days and then crushed using a stone tahona. Next, fermentation lasts 8-10 using natural airborne yeasts. Finally, the mezcal is produced by double distillation in 350 liter copper stills.

Mezcal Descartes is created by Andrés Duarte and Maestro Mezcalero Enrique Hernández with the purpose of creating an artisanal, organic and sustainable mezcal with a unique profile. The company has a social commitment with our local artists. They give 10% of their profits to local contemporary Mexican artists and display their artwork in the back of the bottle labels. Each batch has new artwork.
