About this mezcal
Erstwhile Espadin Limited Edition 2021 was produced in Santa Maria Sola, Oaxaca produced by maestro mezcalero Juan Abel Quiroz Agustín. Maestro Juan Abel Quiroz Agustín prefers to go by “Abel.” The agave used in this mezcal are milled by hand and double distilled in clay pot stills that are traditional to the greater Sola de Vega region where this mezcal is made. Abel’s path to becoming a maestro mezcalero is somewhat non-traditional. While his grandfather was a mezcalero, Abel learned the majority of the mezcal production process from other local producers in his early 30’s, after returning from a brief sojourn in the United States and looking for a way to support his young family.

Review #71: nose has milk chocolate and fresh paint. palate is more milk chocolate, vanilla, caramel, vanilla, banana, a touch of butytic acid, and then cinnamon and earthy on the finish.
The nose on this was a bit of a let down, but the palate helped make up for it. There’s a softness to this that is really nice as it blends all the notes together harmoniously. On the other hand, it almost feels a bit too muted for me. Not too much going on here in my opinion but still easily enjoyable.
