About this mezcal
Esfuerzo Tobalá is produced in San Dionisio Ocotepec, Oaxaca by Margarito García García and his youngest son Artemio García Cruz. Using 100% Agave potatorum, the harvested agaves hearts are cooked underground for 3-4 days. Next, the cooked agave is mashed using a tahona by the family’s horse, Bonita. Fermentation in pine vats lasts for about 5-7 days. Finally, the liquid is double-distilled in copper pots which have a capacity of 300 liters each. The final product is a cut of the body of the distillation run.
Esfuerzo Mezcal

They promote transparency and offer an email address on their website in which the public can inquire as to how much their mezcalero partners are paid per liter of mezcal.
Esfuerzo Mezcal promotes a sustainability initiative which relies on the leadership and cultural knowledge of the García Family in collaboration with the Oaxacan based organization, Aventureros del Mezcal.

77 reviewsStrong aroma of buttercream frosting on first pour with green herbs in the background. Taste is prominent Tobala. Bold agave flavor but with light smoke and lemon peel. Medium-full bodied. Not complex but an enjoyable pour.
