About this mezcal

Esfuerzo Espadín is produced in San Dionisio Ocotepec, Oaxaca by Margarito García García and his youngest son Artemio García Cruz. Using 100% Agave angustifolia, the harvested agaves hearts are cooked underground for 3-4 days. Next, the cooked agave is mashed using a tahona pulled by the family’s horse, Bonita. Fermentation in pine vats lasts for about 5-7 days. Finally, the liquid is double-distilled in copper pots which have a capacity of 300 liters each. The final product is a cut of the body of the distillation run.

Esfuerzo Mezcal

Esfuerzo Mezcal Artesanal features “the life’s work of the Maestro Mezcalero, and his son, shared with you.” The brand puts Margarito García and his youngest son, Artemio García Cruz, front and center in their marketing. They promote transparency and offer an email address on their website in which the public can inquire as to how much their mezcalero partners are paid per liter of mezcal.

Esfuerzo Mezcal promotes a sustainability initiative which relies on the leadership and cultural knowledge of the García Family in collaboration with the Oaxacan based organization, Aventureros del Mezcal.
