About this mezcal
Hacienda de Bañuelos Masparillo is produced using an extremely rare agave that grows wild on hills of the Bañuelos property in the state of Zacatecas. The wild Masparillo agaves are short and squat. The plants take 12 years to mature and are difficult to farm. The Bañuelos family are the first to produce mezcal from this agave in the region. After being cooked in an underground brick oven for 72 hours, the cooked agaves are crushed with a tahona and fermented with wild yeasts before being double distilled.
Hacienda de Bañuelos
Hacienda de Bañuelos (formerly Los Potrillos Mezcal) was founded in 1915 and is a fourth generation taberna (distillery). The Bañuelos family is leading the revival of mezcal production in the Mexican state of Zacatecas which is immediately to the north of Jalisco. Southern Zacatecas has a particular mineral driven terroir that shines in all of the Hacienda de Bañuelos expressions.

361 reviewsDidn’t get the lot number. Vanilla, rosewater, bamboo, crushed granite, pound cake. Nice and soft and easy.

156 reviewsStrong notes of some BBQ, but also slightly sweet (reminiscent of a tequila). Very woody/oaky and earthy – all in a good way. Overall this one is really good.
