Puntagave Rustico Mezcal is produced by Patricio Hernandez in Santiago Matalan and has notes of moderate oak and sweet agave with a long viscous finish of lasting oak and notes of cedar.
About this mezcal
Puntagave Rustico Mezcal follows the traditional method of using underground pits to cook the agave. A fire is started and burns for about 24 hours to heat the volcanic stones that line the pit. The agave hearts are put into the pit and then covered with moist fiber that is left over from the fermentation process. A layer of agave leaves or woven palm leaves cover the fibers and the agave heads are left to cook two to three days. Patricio Hernandez distills this mezcal in Santiago Matalan using copper pot stills. This mezcal has notes of moderate oak and sweet agave with complex aromas of fresh green vegetables and touches of pepper. It has a long viscous finish with lasting oak and notes of cedar.

13 reviewsLote No. E02 on the hologram (although the back label shows Lot 001). I very much enjoyed this expression. Fresh and light nose, full of agave fragrance. Easy sipper, sweet, vegetal flavors with lots of agave character. Long finish with a little bitterness and mild burn.

20 reviewsLot No. 03E, 42% ABV. A little smoke and soft rubber on the nose, less so on the palate. Clean and sweet, slightly minty, some fresh cracked peppercorn. Feels slippery on the tongue. Easy enough to sip, if not super interesting. Reminds me of Mezcal Union Uno but a little sweeter.
