Tres Papalote Mezcal

Tres Papalote mezcal is most commonly known for it’s affiliation with Cheech Marin (of Cheech and Chong). Cheech is a partner in the brand and serves as Tres Papalote’s chief ambassador. The colorful image on the bottle is a selection from Cheech’s personal art collection. When it comes to mezcal, Cheech describes it best:

“Mezcal is like tequila but with tattoos and piercings” – Cheech

BATCH: TP2021-2, 42%, 50ml

Nose – Clean, fresh and sweet; grass, honey, lemon, cilantro, with a slight whiff of some permanent marker. Like a tropical hand soap.

Palate – A sharp opening (a little hot), but a noticeably bitter body; red wine, super dark chocolate, and some unripened plums.

Finish – Bittersweet; orange rind, cacao, raw almonds.

It’s alright. Rich in texture, but not my thing flavor-wise. Too bitter and one dimensional. Cool to try but I can’t see myself ever wanting to reach for this again. It just feels a little “rough around the edges.”

batch AMB-32. Cheech Marin mezacal! Tried it at Dos Coyotes. My wife found it flat and boring with smoke at the end. I find a clear agave smell, with a vegetal, almost nutty flavor with a light sweetness. A little smoke and burn at the end, but generally smooth. I like it, especially at the price and it’s available at a burrito chain no less!

Terrible.

Watery, off-putting, horrible. Negative stars in reality.

Somewhere between 3.5 – 3.75. At $36, its very good. Creamed corn, eucalyptus, cream cheese. Worth buying a bottle

Beautifully smooth, fun to drink with subtle smoke that’s so well-integrated from beginning to end.
