About this mezcal

Tres Papalote Wild Cupreata Mezcal was previously available in three different expressions, which differed in alcohol content: 40% ABV, 46% ABV, and 50% ABV. Going forward the brand will be releasing this mezcal at 46% ABV. The choice of agave sets the brand apart as most other mezcals available at this price point use farm-grown maguey Espadin (Tres Papalote also has an maguey Espadin mezcal). The Cupreata provides a much different experience. Tres Papalote is sweet and savory with hints of medium smoke and a bit of spice. It’s great in cocktails and also for sipping neat.

Tres Papalote Mezcal

Tres Papalote mezcal is most commonly known for it’s affiliation with Cheech Marin (of Cheech and Chong). Cheech is a partner in the brand and serves as Tres Papalote’s chief ambassador. The colorful image on the bottle is a selection from Cheech’s personal art collection. When it comes to mezcal, Cheech describes it best:

“Mezcal is like tequila but with tattoos and piercings” – Cheech

Batch tp00215 46% Fresh tropical fruit and very ripe mango Aroma pours out of the bottle. Nice prickly heat goes up the nose and finishes with a little phenolic after flavor. Peppery aftertaste. This is delicious Mezcal for the price and better than a lot of bottles at twice the price. 7/1/2023 Had a bottle from the same batch again, very consistent. Still love this one for the price.

Pretty great value for a wild cupreata, I found it to be a bit minerally (likely not a word)! It’s tangy, spicy peppery. I’d buy again if not for anything but for the value and it isa decent drink!

Batch#: TP00115 (46%)
Nose: Hint of smoke. Peppermint. Grassy.

Palate: Incredible candy cane sugar pop! Papaya. More mint – with a hint of chocolate like an After Eight after-dinner mint. Mineral finish with white pepper heat.

So good! Especially in the mid-range pricing for mezcal.

This is a wonderful mezcal and a great value. I had the 40% ABV version. The nose is floral and fruity, with notes of pine resin. Rich and spicy on the palate. Tropical fruits with a hint of mint, and a lingering finish. A highly recommended cupreata. Batch # TP00316

This is hands down the best mezcal I’ve sipped… The notes are splendid on the palate, with & hint of citrus & spice… ?✨

46% version. This has strong scents of tropical fruit, sweet agave, and flower pollen. The taste is a bit spicy with notes of jalapeno, black pepper, and winter squash. I liked this a lot and it’s a great deal at the price.

my opinion is biased because i love cupreata but here it goes.i have had the 40% and 46%.they are both excellent.the 40% had a little more caramel but i favor the 46% slightly.the entry is kitchen clean with agave fruit but is fleeting before flavors of pine and mint take over mid-way.finish is also quick with copper and pepper.very full flavor.i have had cupreatas that were watery but this one is not.light but very good.like a feather weight with knockout power.the nose and taste is bright.excellent spirit and value!
