Balancan Tuxca is an artesanal spirit from Southern Jalisco and Northern Colima, Mexico. It’s produced using traditional methods from that region.
About this tuxca
Balancan Tuxca is made in the Tuxcacueso region of Jalisco, Mexico. It’s produced by Ignacio Juarez with maguey Lineño/Cimarron. The agave are cooked in a conical pit oven, milled by hand, and fermented in the 400 year old volcanic craters of the Nevado de Colima volcano region. Once fermented, the agave is then distilled in copper stills that are encased in Parota tree trunks.
Balancan
Balancan is a collection of uncertified spirits from Mexico. Each spirit represents the traditional methods unique to that specific region. It’s sourced from small producers and designed to showcase the diversity of spirits across the country of Mexico.

LOVE LOVE LOVE. So dry and mineraly. Soft like fresh powdered snow.

29 reviewsThis one earns a full 4 stars. I saw this one (Lot TX001, bottle 150) collecting undeserved dust and happily claimed it.
Complexity is thorough from start to finish, thus leaving a pleasing taste right until the next one shortly thereafter. This was the last bottle at the store but I’ll keep my eye out for it elsewhere. Tremendous and worth the $86.99 plus tax.

Palate – Soft, powdered sugar sweetness to start. Slightly oily texture. A huge, flower stem (medicinal) and smoky finish – an exceptionally long finish at that and similar aftertaste.

44 reviewsAn interesting spirit. Starts off a bit hot, then softens and rounds. Raicilla-like. Heavy duty minerals with herbal notes. Wet stone, gravel, sage, and thyme on the palate. A healthy dose of funk on the finish. Lot: TX001 Bottle 374. $89.99 from Astor Wines and Spirits in NY.

385 reviewsDisclaimer: I need to revisit this one because im still not sure what to think. Reminds me more of the Mezonte lineup and less La Venenosa. Price was $129 in Dallas, kind of steep after tasting this bottle, imo. Lactic, dry, funky, moldy, musty mineral water. Pretty crazy in terms of mexican spirits, which is why I almost want to give this an incomplete at this point. Pretty sure its not a 5 star from me, and 3 stars definitely seems low based on what im tasting.
