About this mezcal

Cómplice Espadín Cuishe is produced using Agave angustifolia (Maguey Espadín) and Agave karwinskii (Maguey Cuishe) by Mezcalero Ignacio Martínez in San Dionisio Ocotepec, Oaxaca. After the agaves reach maturity after approximately 8 years and 15 years respectively they are harvested and cooked in a river-stone pit oven. The cooked agaves are crushed by a horse-drawn tahona. After fermenting in oak wood vats, it is double distilled in copper stills.

This mezcal is part of the limited edition Cómplice de Pasión series made from wild agave.

Cómplice Mezcal

The name of Cómplice Mezcal comes from a story. One night, a man learned of the existence of a legendary mezcalero who had the gift of capturing the essence of a person in the drops of mezcal. The man was determined to find the master. After a long period of searching, he finally found the legendary teacher. After talking for a long time, the master agreed to reveal his secrets, giving rise to a mutual complicity: whenever any of the descendants of the man found the teacher, he would teach him to capture the essence of a person in a mezcal in exchange for keeping the secret within the family. This is how, generation after generation, members of the family have maintained the unique flavor and secret of the mezcal: Cómplice Mezcal.

One of the better Complice mezcals from Ignacio Martinez that I’ve tried. Light cotton candy, marshmallows, a bit buttery with some salt. Overall an easy and approachable sipper. Lot: EXEC001. 2020.

Lot: EXEC001. 2020. One of the more enjoyable Complice that I tried. Very bright and approachable. Get flavors of rain water, strawberries and bananas.
