Cuentacuentos Seemanniana is made from agave Seemanniana. Mezcalero Ángel Cruz Calvo crafts this mezcal at palenque in Sola de Vega, Oaxaca.
About this mezcal
Cuentacuentos Seemanniana is made from maguey Tobala, which in this rare case is referring to an agave Seemanniana. This mezcal was distilled from Mezcalero Ángel Cruz Calvo’s own crop of cultivated agave Seemanniana. Ángel Cruz Calvo, who is the grandfather of Ángel Cruz Robles, crafted this mezcal at palenque in Sola de Vega, Oaxaca. His palenque is near a sacred creek that regularly draws religious pilgrims from miles away. This mezcal is cooked for 72 hours in an underground oven and then left to ferment for 8-9 days before being double-distilled in clay pot stills.
Cuentacuentos
Cuentacuentos curates small-batch traditional mezcals and destilados de agave from producers across the state of Oaxaca. Cuentacuentos released its first 6 mezcal expressions in 2018; future releases from the brand will change over time and include non-certified mezcals. The logo and bottle artwork (by artist Cesar Ruiz Conseco) features an opossum or tlacuache in Spanish. The tlacuache on the logo is El Viejito, the little old man opposum who stole mezcal from the demons as a service to humanity. The tlacuache ranks with the jaguar, eagle, and burro in importance in Zapotec, Taina, and Mexican mythologies. Cuentacuentos is bottled under NOM-O20X by Carlos Méndez Blas. The Cuentacuentos motto is Mezcal brings people together, stories make us friends.

466 reviewsThis is awesome! Batch ACB008. Bottle 112/125. Very green on nose. Fresh green apples! Smells amazing! Sweet vanilla and a bit of mint. The palate is creamy with yogurt, cream, and some orange and mango. Good fruit. Doesn’t taste like anything I’ve had from Sola de Vega tho. Not that typical slate taste/feel I was expecting. So this was a pleasant surprise.

428 reviewsWow. Green and vegetal. The flavors are Uber fresh – organic farmer’s market fresh produce notes. Sweet tea on the finish. Not getting much clay which is interesting given it is from Sola de Vega. May 2018 batch.
